Referred to as Abraham Duvinaar of Stettin, he sailed from Amsterdam to the Cap e of Good Hope on the vessel Nieuw-Nieuwerkerk on 18 June 1765, arriving on 13 O ctober 1765 (11 October according to his notes).
He left the ship on 24 October 1765, a day before the vessel departed for Batavi a, which was his original destination.
The weather, and beauty of the Cape prompted his decision to stay.
