BirthOrigin*Jan was from Bengal and was perhaps born there between 1677 and 1678. Van Bengale - or from Bengal - was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal. He was said to be 14 or 15 years old in 1692.1 
Slave TransactionsOn 3 March 1691 Jan Horl van Bengale was sold by Berndt Burcherdt to Jan de Souza, for Rds. 12.2
