BirthOrigin*Jan was from the Bengal Coast and was perhaps born there circa 1642. The date is estimated.1 
Slave TransactionsOn 15 May 1666 Jan van Bengale was sold by Jacob Cauw to Luitenant Johannes Coon, for Rds. 100. In terms of the agreement, Cau could purchase Jan back at the same amount; and if Coon did not have the purchase price immediately available, he could pay in instalments.2,3,4
