Paris was from Bengal and may have been born there circa 1650. He was 24 when sold as a slave in 16743. It should be born in mind that the toponym 'van Bengale' or from Bengal was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal.²

Slave Transactions

On 2 June 1674 Paris van Bengale was sold by Albert van Breugel to Jan Valckenrijck, for Rds 80.^2,3
On 15 June 1680 Paris van Bengale was sold by Heltjen Redogs to Simon van der Stel, for Rds. 55 1/2. I assume this to be the same slave purchased by her (now deceased) husband in 1674.⁴
