Pieter was from either the Malabar or Coromandel Coast, the transaction record does not say which. He was perhaps born there circa 1656.¹

On 16 March 1676 Pieter van der Kust was sold by Meijndert Pruijs to Wilhelm van Dieden, for Rds 50.^2,3
