Lourens was from the Malabar Coast and was perhaps born there circa 1658. He was said to be 40 years old in 1698.¹

Slave Transactions

On 25 November 1698 Lourens van Malabar was sold by Claes Hendriks Diepenhout to Hendricùs Munckerùs, for Rds. 44, this according to Böeseken who said he was the principaale slaaf of the latter. However in Changing Hands, Shell says the seller was Christoffel van Voorst and the purchaser Diepenouw.^2,3
