Dirck was from Petten and was perhaps born there circa 1630. His age is estimated.¹

Names in the record, in publications, etc.

15 June 1658, the name of Dirck was written in the record as Dirck Janssen.²

Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)

On 31 May 1657 Dirck Jansz: was enumerated in the muster roll, as a sailor earning f 11.¹
On 15 February 1658 Dirck Jansz: was enumerated in the muster roll, he was recorded as Dircq Jansz:, of Petten, arquebusier.³

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 15 June 1658, Dirck Jansz: was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. he was recorded as an arquebusier in the Fort.²
