Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)On 15 February 1658 Pieter Paulusz: Cley and Dirk Ariensz: Vreem were enumerated in the muster roll among the freemen, as free carpenters. Enumerated with them was Michiel Bartholomieusz:, described as 'in their service.2'
Vrijbriewen and Burgher StatusOn 10 October 1657, Pieter Paulusz: Cley was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a carpenter.1
Crime and relatedOn 7 December 1658 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was involved in a knife fight with Pieter Paulusz: Cley, who subsequently fled into the interior. Vreem was 'dangerously wounded in the side.3'
