BaptismArent van de Caep was baptized on 18 February 1703 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town). The baptism was witnessed by Maria van Batavia and Jan Willemse Vermeulen. This witness has not been positively identified but Maria van Batavia and Jan Willemse Vermeulen is(are) potentially the correct individual(s). I have assumed the parents to be the individuals purchased in a single transaction by WA van der Stel in 1699 and recorded Lucretia and Aaron van der Kust Coromandel. They had travelled together on the return fleet and we said to be 16 and 20 years old respectively.3
Slave BirthsBefore 18 February 1703, Arent van de Caep was born in bondage and was owned by Willem Adriaan van der Stel de Caep de Goede Hoop.1
