BaptismIsmael van de Khoe was baptized on 22 November 1705 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town). The baptism was witnessed by Dom:e Petrus Kalden, Albertus Coopman and Maria Bergh. The baptism was performed by Dom:e Petrus Kalden.3

Did God hear? - the curious baptism in 1705 of an 'Hottentot' infant named Ismael) which contextualises this baptism and the name of the child in terms of naming and baptism practices of children at the Cape in the period, as well as in terms of etymology and history.
