Marriage*PN NN married Catharina Ustings circa 1660 Nothing is currently (2005) known about this first marriage - the relationship is widely is assumed because Tryn was described as a 21-year-old widow in the Resolutions of the Council of Policy at the time of her marriage to Hans Rans was announced.

Margaret Cairns in "Tryn Ras", assumes that Trijn was already widowed when she embarked on her journey to the Cape in 1662. However, it seems just as likely that she was widowed enroute to the Cape - given the number of deaths due to scurvy which occured on the journey, and which continued to occur for some time afterwards.1,2,3
