BirthOrigin*Jan Rogier was said in the records to be from Morselin or Monsnaije. This is likely to be the East Flanders village of Morseel which came into being in the middle ages. The current spelling dates back to the 18th century, with Latin spellings, such as Morcella or Morscella (adj. Morscellensis), recorded as early as around 1048. Rogier may have been born there circa 1685. My thanks to Mansell Upham for spending so much time identifying this location.2,3
Marriage*He married Margrijeta Harmense, daughter of Johann Harmensz Harting and Maria Beijers, on 10 September 1713 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.4,5,6
