He married Catharina Magrita van der Merwe, daughter of Hendrik Willem van der Merwe and Katrijna Cloete, on 30 April 1747 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, Drakenstein, de Caep de Goede Hoop. The marriage was performed by Ds. Salomon van Echten.⁴
