On his way to Batavia T. arrived at the Cape (1689) in the Alkmaar, but circumstances prevented him from continuing his journey: at the Cape there was serious dissatisfaction with the local minister, the Rev. J. van Andel,* and the Council of Policy consequently appointed T. in his stead. Little is known of his four-year period of service at the Cape (1689-93). He was eventually transferred to Batavia, where he arrived only on 9.11.1693.
