Slave EmancipationsBefore 24 January 1677 Susanna NN was emancipated by an unknown person de Caep de Goede Hoop, she was described in her son Pieter's baptism record as Susanna gevrijde Swart - the implication being that she had been enslaved. Since her son was born enslaved to Jan Valckenrijck, it is highly likely that Susanna had been enslaved to him and that had he emancipated her, but that is not stated in the record.1
