Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde1

F, #9676, b. circa 1680, d. 16 January 1729
Mother*Calmeronde van Madagascar b. c 1661; Even though the mother in the baptism of Elisabeth is not identified beyond her origin, this relationship is assumed. There are no other pairings in the record that fit and in the Lodge census of 1714 Elisabeth is identified in the record as the daughter of Calmeronde1

Slave Birth - Company OwnedElisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde was born in bondage circa 1680 and was owned by the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie), Slave Lodge, de Caep de Goede Hoop, I believe Elisabeth to have been born several years before her baptism in 1689 Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde.1
BaptismElisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde was baptized on 16 January 1689 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop. The baptism was witnessed by Luitnt' Dominiqu Paque de Schavonnes and Andrijs de Man.2
Death*She died on 16 January 1729, she was said to be an oude onbequaame en afgeleefde slavin - in other words old, unskilled and decrepit.3

CensusLodge1693*1 January 1693 Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde was enumerated on the census of the Slave Lodge, as an adult laborer in the gemene werke or public works. I assume therefor that she was considered old enough to work, and therefor about 13-years-old. She also appears to have given birth the following year, which means she must have achieved puberty.4
CensusLodge1714*31 August 1714 Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde was enumerated in the census of the Slave Lodge as Elizabeth Calmeronde. She is also named as Lijs Calmeronde being the mother of Thomas van de Caep van Elisabeth van de Caep and Maria van de Caep in the same census.5
Slaves Owned by the CompanyOn 1 August 1694 Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde and Maria van de Caep were enslaved and owned by the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) at the Cape.6
On 23 September 1696 Elisabeth van de Caep van Calmeronde and Thomas van de Caep van Elisabeth van de Caep were enslaved and owned by the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) at the Cape.7
