Jan was from Ternate and perhaps born there circa 1660.²

Slave Emancipations

On 11 November 1685 Jan van Ternaten was emancipated by Barbara Geens, he purchased his freedom for Rds. 60.¹
On 27 May 1687 the freedom of Magdalena van Bengalen was purchased from Elsie van Suurwaerden for Rds. 100 and most likely paid for by herself or her soon-to-be husband. I have assumed this is the same woman purchased by Albert van Breugel, husband of Elsje Seurwaerden, in 1683 Jan van Ternaten.³
