Floris was from Bengal and was perhaps born there circa 1671. Van Bengale - or from Bengal - was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal. He was said to be 24 years old in 1695.¹

Duplicate?*

It is possible that Floris van Bengale and Floor van Bengale are the same individual.

Slave Transactions

On 8 August 1695 Floris van Bengale was sold by Christiaan Martense to Mahiu de Rijke, for Rds. 80.²
On 27 February 1700 Floris van Bengale was sold by Mahiu de Rijke to Joost Cornelis, for Rds. 100.³
