Slave TransactionsOn 7 April 1678 Thomas van Bengale, Jan van Batavia, Paulus van Cabo Verde and Pieternel were sold by Hester Weijers for a skuldbrief of f 8 500 to Willem van Wijk and Gerrit Theunisz, the transaction included the farm Paradijs, in Constantia, with its homestead, land, home, stables and all fixed property; as also 19 cattle, 100 halfslag sheep, a gelding, a wagon, a plough with fittings, garden implements such as skoppe en grawe — spades and shovels.9,10
On 25 April 1685 Anthonij van Guinea was gifted by Cornelis Pietersz Linnes, to Willem van Wijk, as an element of the sale of Linnes' home and garden to Van Wijck.11,12
On 5 May 1686 Willem van Wijk bought a slave, Jan van Madagascar, from William Deeron, for Rds. 53. This individual fits the timeline to be the purchaser in this transaction. Correction welcome.13

Onder die datum 25.4.1685 lees ons by Böeseken:
    "Anthony from Guinea (14) sold together with a garden by Cornelis Linnes, an official, to the Free Burgher Willem van Wijck, but Willem had to promise to free the slave ("Anthoni en dat tot toegift van seecker gekochte thuijn belovende hem te
    Vrijen en te guaranderen als na reghten, alles sonder fraude"). No date for the attainment of freedom stated in the document".
         In die eerste plek is dit nie hierdie veertienjarige slaaf wat verkoop word nie, maar wel Linnes wat sy huis en tuin verkwansel. As 'n toegif op die koop skenk Linnes die Anthony aan Van Wijck. Dat die koper van die huis en tuin die slaaf sou moes vrystel is glad en geheel nie deel van die ooreenkoms nie. In die tussen hakies aangehaalde gedeelte behoort daar ná reg na die word "thuijn" 'n punt te wees. Die gedeelte "belovende hem te vrijen en te guaranderen als na reghten, alles sonder fraude" is een van daardie amptelike en wetlike klousules wat destyds in bykans alle aktes van oordrag voorgekom het. Dit beteken dat die verkoper verklaar dat hy die eiendom verkoop vry van alle verpligtinge. Die koper verkeer dus onder geen verpligting wat die vorige eienaar sou aangegaan het terwyl dit nog in sy besit was nie. Hier is dus geen sprake van 'n slaaf wat vrygestel word nie vandaar dan ook die gebrek aan 'n datum vir die "vrystelling".. Hereinafter cited as "Foute en regstellings."
