NotesCatherine Maré married to Johannes Janse van Vuuren is said to have been the sister of Ignatius Maré, and that his daughter was the mother of Catharina Magdalena baptised in 1739. In my view it is the daughter of the progenitor who was married to Johannes J. van Vuuren, and that there is no evidence in the record that the Maré progenitor had a sister resident at the Cape. My explanation can be found in the attached Acrobat file. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has evidence to the contrary.
