BirthOrigin*Jan was from Madagascar and may have been born there circa 1650.2
Names in the record, in publications, etc.On 3 April 1668 Jan was incorrectly named in the record as Böeseken incorrectly recorded his provenance as Madagascar, it should have been Macassar.1,2
Slave TransactionsOn 3 April 1688 Jan van Macassar was sold by Herman Ernst de Gresnicht to Henning Hüsing, for Rds. 36 on condition that Jan is free three years later.3
Slave EmancipationsOn 3 April 1688 Antoni van Macassar and Jan van Macassar were emancipated by Herman Gresnigh, on condition that they serve Henning Hüsing for 3 years at an annual rumeration of Rds. 12 [each?], as well as food and clothing. Is the Rds. 36 recorded by Böeseken 3x12? At the end of 3 years, they could decide whether or not to continue working as free servants for Hüsing, or seek their living elsewhere.4,1

"3.4.1688, pp. 67-68: Antoni from Macassar (40), sold by Herman Gresnigt to Henning Hüsing for Rds. 36 on condition that slave be freed three years later", en
"3.4.1688, pp. 69-70: Jan from Madagascar (38), sold by Herman Gresnigt to Henning Hüsing for Rds. 36 on condition that slave be freed three years later".

Eers daarna sal hulle kan kies of hulle as vryknegte by Hüsing wil aanbly en of hulle elders hulle kos wil gaan win. Böeseken se rapportering is dus geen getroue weergawe van die dokumente nie.. Hereinafter cited as "Foute en regstellings."
