BirthOrigin*Carel was from Stockholm and was perhaps born there circa 1651. His age is estimated.2,1 
Occupation* Before 3 October 1671 Carel Broersen was a free fisher on the Soutrivier.3 
Names in the record, in publications, etc.20 March 1656, the name of Carel was written in the record as Carel Broers.4
1 November 1657, the name of Carel was written in the record as Carel Broersz.5
Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)On 20 March 1656 Carel Broersen was enumerated in the muster roll, as an arquebusier.2
On 31 May 1657 Carel Broersen was enumerated in the muster roll, as an arquebusier earning f 11 per month.6
On 15 February 1658 Leendert Cornelisz: was enumerated in the muster roll among the freemen, as as a 'woodsawyer' and owner of part of a forest. Enumerated with him were Dircq Dircqsz:, Carel Broers, Christoffel Coenraetsz:, Jan Jansz: Macha, Claes Fredericksz:, Wilhelm Gou and Jan Christoffel Broeckmeulen, described as 'in his service.7'
Vrijbriewen and Burgher StatusOn 1 November 1657, Carel Broersen was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as an arquebusier.8
Slave TransactionsOn 12 March 1670 Pieter van Bengale was sold by Dirck Jansz van Roijen to Carel Broersen, for Rds 25.9,10
On 3 October 1671 Pieter van Bengale was sold by Carel Broersen to Theunis Dircksen Schalckwyck, for f 1 650. The transaction included Broersen's farm including the house and household goods, corn, livestock, two fishing sloops and fishing barrels and nets. In terms of the agreement he would remain in the house for a period, and kept a horse, two pigs, two kists, and his bedding. He also transferred his fishing rights to Van Schalckwijck.11,12,13

Dit geskied op die voorwaarde dat die verkoper in bogemelde woning mag woon tot met die koms van die aanstaande retoervloot asook om vir hom ‘n perd uit te hou, 2 varke, 2 kiste en sy gewone slaapgoed. Die verkoper ontvang die som van f 1 650 waarvoor hy beloof om van sy gepriviligeerde vrye visvangs in die Soutrivier ten gunste van die koper afstand te doen..     Hierdie document kom in werklikheid op bladsye 72-74 van die betrokke bundel Transporten en Schepenkennisse as oordrag T118 voor. Carel Broersen word hierin aangegee as synde oorspronklik van Stockholm en nou 'n vry visser aan die Soutrivier - alles gegewens wat Böeseken nie verstrek nie. Hy verkoop in die document nie net sy huis en huishoudelike goedere nie, maar in werklikheid sy hele plaas, landerye en koring, sy vee, twee vissloepe en enige vate en nette wat destyds by visvangs gebruik is. Aangesien hy nog 'n tydlank in die huis wou bly woon, hou hy vir hom 'n perd, twee varke, twee kiste en sy slaapgoed uit. Die hele koopsom is 1 650 gulde. Boonop beloof hy om nie meer met die visvangs voort te gaan nie. Al hierdie gegewens sou wel Böeseken se opsomming langer gemaak het, maar daarmee ryker aan inhoud en betekenis.
