Heese en GISA se Suid-Afrikaanse Geslagregisters Deel 6 gee hom aan as beide a,b2,c1 Willem, gedoop 25.4.1717; trou Paarl 12.1.1755 Susanna LOMBARD, weduwee van Jonathan Durand en a,b6 Willem, gedoop 1696; trou 12.11.1755 Suzanne LOMBARD, weduwee Durand.

Volgens die testament van Willem Nel en Susanna Lombard, wat op 4 November 1766 op hul plaas De Zoeten Inval, Drakenstein (die huidige Paarl) opgestel is, was hy die seun van Jan Nel.
