Birth*Hendrik Venter was born circa 1660 Hamel, France. There is a growing consensus of opinion among Venter researchers that Hendrik Venter was from Hamel in France and not Hamel(i)n in Germany, and the available evidence is heavily weighted in favor of this conclusion. In all the records in which he is named at the Cape, most specifically his two marriage records, he is recorded as from Hamel. Previously it was widely accepted that he came from Hamel(i)n in Germany, and that he was originally known as Heinrich von Dempter, a conclusion that is not supported by the record. Please visit the Venter website (see footnotes) for indepth information and interpretation.1,2,3
Marriage*He married Johanna Mostert, daughter of Jan Mostert and Alida van Hulst, on 17 July 1690 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.4,5

Marriage*He married Anna Viljoen, daughter of Francois Viljoen and Cornelia Campenaar, on 9 December 1691 (Cape Town).6,7

Death*He died before 18 April 1713.8,7

Slave TransactionsOn 1 May 1690 Jacob van Macassar was sold by Jacob Matsen Rootsteen to Hendrick Venter, for Rds. 90. I have assumed this to be the same individual purchased by Rootstein from Joan Parvé in April 1690 albeit with a different toponym. Corrections welcome.14
